Consultants are offered many opportunities in terms of Industry practices, level of intervention and/or scope of responsibilities (expertise, project management, team management, business development, etc).
The integration process
Our new staff members take part in a two-day integration seminar “Fit for Altran“. This seminar is an intensive introductory training programme preparing our consultants for the daily consulting routine. The individual elements of our business processes are practised by means of role plays and you can practise your behaviour as a consultant. New staff members are allotted a mentor/coach for as support for the first few months, one who is an experienced consultant and will help you in all questions, whether they are of a technical or an administrative nature.
Career development of Consultants
Meetings are held regularly between the consultant and his business manager in order to discuss the present project work, progress in the project and/or future projects.
Furthermore the consultant has the chance during the annual staff discussions to address all matters which are involved in his further development:
- Career planning: short term, medium term and long term
- Training requirements and wishes
- Financial aspects
Personal further development of consultants
As consultants, our employees go through up to five career stages, according to their professional experience - from Junior up to Principal Consultant. The first years serve to consolidate your technical (in the fields of engineering and IT) know-how and introduction or extension of your knowledge in the field of project management. Those new to the profession will be accompanied and supported from the beginning by experienced consultants in the course of coaching and mentoring programmes. To this are added various training sessions which are concerned with certain technologies and so-called soft skills such as communication or presentation techniques.

The carreer
Specialized yourself
The next step in the career ladder is the chance to specialise, that is to extend your expertise in certain technologies such as automotive electronics or technical simulation. In the field of project management, for example, you can support Management in the acquisition and take on the role of a pre-sales Consultant. Furthermore there is the possibility of taking on the technical coordination and disciplinary responsibility for a project team.
- A further exciting career chance is cooperation in the Solution Center - which, as internal service provider, combines, establishes and further develops project experience and expertise and thus functions as a store of knowledge. Here, for example, you can take on the role of Project or Bid Leader, for example, or one of Project or Delivery Manager.
- The steps between the career stages are each with specific requirement profiles, saved according to each interest in a so-called competency and development matrix which highlights each specific expertise or management and coordination ability. In the staff discussions which take place annually, this, together with the individually agreed target, serve as the basis for further development.
- The Altran career system thus allows its consultants to focus not only technical subjects but also management assignments in the course of their careers.
- Whoever would like to concentrate completely on management, on the other hand, can embark on a career as Business Development Manager. This means he is no longer involved as technical expert in implementing projects but rather he is responsible for acquisition of clients, building up his own consultancy team, as well as the management of his business unit and the career development of his team. Many of today's executives have taken this route!
- Parallel to these development opportunities responsibility can be assumed for internal projects and themes, e.g. as intern trainer, quality controller, involvement in marketing or recruiting as flexible and individual career configuration with Altran.
